Small in number but huge in heart best describes the students and parents in North Allegheny’s Franklin Elementary School. The school hosted its second annual “Pennies Wars” where classes competed against each other to raise the most money for Pennies From Heaven. In addition to being awarded points for each Penny collected in the classroom jars, classes could subtract from totals by placing dollar bills in other classes’ jars. After a long and fun week of sabotaging and scheming, the Franklin kids did not fail to impress raising an AMAZING $4942.00. This is the largest amount ever raised and donated to Pennies by a school system. As part of the fun, the classes raising the highest amounts were awarded a pizza party and extra recreational time. Thanks to Principal extraordinaire Jeff Anderchak , Heidi Kern-Moose and her band of super-parents, and all of our wonderful young friends at Franklin Elementary.  Read full story here.
