Scott & Lisa Silverman’s son, Ari age 7, spent a nervous and frightening 3 1/2 weeks in the intensive care unit at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh last fall.  Ari suffered complications from a staph infection in his lungs.  He went into septic shock and his parents watched helplessly as he fought for his life.  Although the Silverman family never needed a gift from Pennies, they were still aware of their surroundings and they wanted to help.  As Lisa remarked, “We never needed funds from your organization while we were at CHP, but we watched working class families struggle with financial choices the entire time we were there.  It was heart-wrenching for us to watch. This fall, we want to celebrate our son’s survival and all the people in our community who helped us as well as raise funds for your organization.”

On October 5, 2013, friends and family gathered at the American Legion Lodge #980 in Plum to celebrate Ari’s bravery and life and to help other families in need.  Attendees enjoyed food, fun, Chinese Auctions and great company.  At the end of the evening, an impressive $1750 was raised and donated directly to Pennies From Heaven where every dollar will be gifted directly to a family in need.  Thank you Silverman Family and Friends, you have made the world a better place for many families!
